The hexbeam has been one of the most popular new antenna designs for amateur radio use in many years. An excellent performer, light, with a small turning radius and a relatively low visibility profile, this antenna lends itself to the "build-your-own" enthusiast. This page makes obtaining the needed fiberglass to build your own hexbeam an easy task, and also seeks to make the task of finding design and construction notes far easier, too!
Before ordering the fiberglass for building your Hexbeam, you might want to look at these informational links:

Magazine article (QST, March, 2009 antenna issue) version:
There are two different versions of fiberglass tube kit parts used to build the super-popular hex antennas.
This first kit is the one called for in Leo Shoemaker's construction article in the March, 2009 "antenna issue" of QST magazine.
If you are building from the magazine article, it is a good idea to order this kit, the HEXKIT 1. It contains many parts cut to 58 inch lengths, which are short enough to ship in the continental USA at standard (not oversize) shipping rates. Leo's website, which also has building instructions, now has reduced the maximum lengths of fiberglass required to 48 inches, which in many cases will make international shipping easier. If you are building from Leo's current website instructions HERE , you should order the HEXKIT 2 , shown further down on this page.
The HEXKIT 1 (magazine article version) consists of the following fiberglass:
All of the above seven tubes are cut at 58 inches and the "drop" piece to avoid "oversize" shipping charges for US ground shipment.
These six tubes are all cut in half to yield six four foot long pieces of each diameter.
NOTE: According to Steve, G3TXQ, designer of the G3TXQ broadband hexbeam, this fiberglass kit is also fine for building the broadband version!
We sell this kit (fiberglass only . no hardware) for a special price, including cutting, of $119.95 !
Order as our stock number: HEXKIT 1
Our newest version of our fiberglass tube parts kit follows the currently specified cut lengths called for on Leo Shoemaker's website, HERE .
If you are building your antenna using Leo's instructions on his current website, we suggest this kit.
This fiberglass kit is also fine for building the broadband version!
The HEXKIT 2 consists of:
Note that you will have an EXTRA 4 foot piece of 1.25 inch tube. It is an extra piece (spare) included at the same special kit price, including cutting, of $119.95!
Order as our stock number: HEXKIT 2
Due to large volume purchases, we are able to offer these items at less cost than ordering them directly from "The Wireman".
The rope is 85 feet of "The Wireman's" 3/32 inch OD black Dacron. According to Steve, G3TXQ, this length should be the required length plus 10% margin.
This rope is very durable, and very strong for its size (with a 260 pound break strength), as well as very light weight. This item adds one pound shipping weight to your order, including packaging.
Order as our stock # HEXROPE 1 Price: $7.50 ( Order Now! )
***** SPECIAL NOTICE: Leo Shoemaker, K4KIO, has recently updated his suggested construction guidelines for the broadband design, to require approximately 200 feet of this rope, instead of the 85 feet previously called for. This change makes the design even stronger and more durable. If you are building to these new guidelines, order our stock # HEXROPE 2. This new item contains 200 feet of the 3/32 inch OD black Dacron rope. HEXROPE 2 adds 2 pounds to packed shipping weight of your order.
Order as our stock # HEXROPE 2 Price: $16.95 ( Order Now! )
We also offer a slightly larger diameter of this Dacron rope, suitable for many other antenna related uses:
Our stock # "HEXWIRE 2" is 275 feet of "The Wireman's" # 523 "silky". This wire is 14 gauge, tinned, finely stranded copper. Very flexible but very strong. According to Steve Hunt, G3TXQ, this length is the required amount for either version, plus a small margin. This item adds 5 pounds to the shipping weight of your order, including packaging. Originally, both G3TXQ and Leo Shoemaker, K4KIO specified 16 gauge wire for this antenna. They have recently changed that recommendation to either the 16 gauge (which has not been available for some time) OR the slightly larger 14 gauge version of this wire. The 14 gauge wire is the same highly flexible, multi-strand "silky", and the slightly larger diameter further increases strength. Through a large quantity purchase, we are able to offer an EXCELLENT price on this wire.
Order as our stock # HEXWIRE 2 The 14 gauge "hexwire 2" adds 5 pounds to the packed weight of your order.
Price: $65.95 ( Order Now! )
Our stock # "HEXWIRE 3" is 275 feet of "The Wireman's" # 542 "Flex Weave". This wire is 14 gauge, finely stranded (168 strands!) bare copper. Ultra flexible but very strong, with 128 pounds rated break strength. They have recently changed that recommendation to either the 16 gauge (which has not been available for some time) OR the slightly larger 14 gauge. Through a large quantity purchase, we are able to offer an EXCELLENT price on this wire.
Order as our stock # HEXWIRE 3 The 14 gauge "hexwire 3" adds 5 pounds to the packed weight of your order.

These items may be ordered individually, or with the HEXKIT 1, described above. Note that ordering these items with the HEXKIT 1 will slightly increase the shipping weight of your order, and will slightly affect the approximate shipping costs quoted below for the fiberglass "HEXKIT 1" alone.
To compute your approximate total cost (applies to customers in the 48 contiguous US states), including ground shipping, add only a $2.00 packing charge, and the following ground shipping charge to your zone.
FUEL ADJUSTMENT SURCHARGE: UPS and FedEx are now charging several additional add-on fees in addition to the base rate tables. Most of these fees are location specific. Applicable to all orders, a variable "fuel adjustment surcharge", typically adjusted monthly, is assessed in order to recover increased fuel costs. This fuel adjustment surcharge is a small percentage which is added to the rates in the following rate table. Residential addresses will also incur a "residential delivery surcharge". Deliveries to rural areas may also incur a "delivery area surcharge". The rate table below will be very close for urban or non-rural suburban business addresses. The variability of these other charges make exact shipping quotes by table impossible, especially for rural residential deliveries. If you would like an exact shipping quote prior to ordering, just ask, and we will be happy to calculate it for you.
*** Customers in Alaska, Hawaii, and all non US customers please EMAIL with your shipping address including postal code if applicable, and request a shipping quote for this kit.
