Bristol Wrench Company Spline Drivers
The Bristol spline screwdrivers have replaceable bits, retained by a setscrew in the recess of a precision-machined bushing which is broached to the unique size and shape of the bit for positive, non-slip engagement. The plastic handle is manufactured with material and method which provide superior performance and durability. The handle is specifically designed with a size and shape proportional to the size and shape of the bit and fastener, allowing the technician to have the necessary "feel" to properly apply required torque and to conveniently work on a wide range of tasks. This combination of features is unmatched in the tool industry. These are not "one size fits all" drivers but instead, are designed to provide exceptional performance in Bristol spline fastening applications. Standard and optional "extra length" replacement bits are also available. NOTE: Each screwdriver handle is supplied complete with one standard length bit of appropriate size and number of flutes at no additional charge! The Bristol Spline Drive... Pioneered by Bristol, the multiple spline drive system is recognized by design engineers as the superior method of transmitting torque because nearly 100% of wrenching force is applied at right angles to the load bearing spline surfaces of the socket. Other drive systems dissipate a significant amount of thrust into radial thrust, tending to expand the socket rather than tighten the screw. The substantial and effective wrench engagement inherent in the Bristol design addresses the problems caused by other systems such as cam-out, socket reaming, and "rounding" of wrenches. Applications... Excellent for all applications. Especially indicated for set screws and smaller cap screws requiring severe tightning, severe vibration tolerance, and for screws with shallow sockets. For frequent removal and resetting of screws and plugs, such as for tool inserts, purge screws, drain/filler plugs, template retainers, and replacement of worn parts. In applications requiring softer screw materials such as stainless steel or non-ferrous metals necessitated in moist or industrial environments.
NEW! We now offer many obsolete or custom types and sizes of Bristol spline wrenches. These types and sizes are almost impossible to find elsewhere! A custom size (.0625", 4 flute) was once manufactured for a very few large clients, and has never been part of our standard size offerings. Some service literature may also refer to this wrench as .063" size. Either reference is actually the same custom wrench. We now have access to this custom 4 flute long-arm L-key, and offer it as our part number S-.063-4 LA Special. Price is $4.95 each. We now also offer as a seperate item the EXTREMELY hard to get .216-6OS! The .216-6OS is an obsolete "old style" spline key which is used in refrigeration. Refrigeration technicians should not be without this wrench. Nothing else will work including the standard .216-6 for many refrigeration applications. Sold individually as our part number S-.216-6OS , this long-arm L-key is priced at $6.95 each (Note that this specialty wrench is also sold on our "Spline L-keys page" as part of the SL-607R long-arm L-key kit.) How to read our part numbers... First letter: S = Spline "L" key; DS = Driver, spline handle...(supplied with one standard length bit); B = Bit (straight bits for driver handles)
Next digit: 4 = four flutes; 6 = six flutes In the spline "L-Keys" only, a following "L" indicates "long" length. The "OS" suffix in the .216 diameter wrenches and bits denotes "original style"... a bit designed for the refrigeration industry which has deeper grooves. The "OS" is not compatible with standard .216" spline fasteners.

When ordering replacement bits for Bristol spline screwdrivers, specify standard length or optional "long" length. The "long" length is typically one inch longer than the standard bit length. In the .111, .133, and .145 sizes (only), there is a choice of two optional "long" lengths, either one inch or two inches longer than standard.
