DC Electric Motors /and Vacuum Capacitor Motor Drives Vacuum capacitor / variable inductor motor drives
While these units do NOT have limit switches to stop the motors when they reach end of travel for the device being driven, they DO have two 10-turn, 10k ohm potentiometers which are gear driven from each motor to indicate position . Motors are made by the Pittman Company, of Harleysville , PA . 19438-0003 (Division of Penn Engineering & Mfg . Co . ) The motors are marked:
These units weigh approximately 2 . 3 pounds, and measure 6 . 25 inches wide X 3 and 7/8 inches (aluminum plate with gears) and maximum depth of 3 and 7/8 inches, including motors and shafts . The motors pull about . 35 amps at full rated operating voltage . They turn about 100 rpm at full voltage (24 vdc), but will run much slower at as little as a volt! Even at this tiny fraction of rated voltage, they develop substantial torque, and would be difficult if not impossible to stop with one's fingers! This gives the user wide range of speed, (and still plenty of usable torque) simply by dropping the applied voltage . The 10 k ohm indicating potentiometers are coupled to the main drive shafts, (which are 1/4 inch diameter, flatted shafts) by means of gears . The motors must turn about 2 . 1 revolutions to turn the potentiometers a single turn . The drive motors each have about 1/2 inch of the 1/4inch OD flatted shaft extending out past the small gear in order to attach (by means of a 1/4 inch shaft coupling . . . we have these in stock at $4 each) the devices being driven . With this much available torque, some method of limiting travel (such as limit switches, or some method using resistance of the attached potentiometers) will be needed in order to avoid over-rotation of the controlled device . 24 vdc...... 108 RPM The two part numbers -R1 and -R3 (revision 1 and revision 3) appear to be identical, and we can detect no visible or performance differences between the two. The motors have two drilled and tapped holes (1.5 inches on-centers) on the front shoulder for mounting. Weight is slightly under one pound. Length of body is 3-1/8 inch. We have a large supply of these mil-spec DC motors for sale . Made by several manufacturers, they were used interchangeably to drive a small squirrel cage blower to cool a military antenna coupler . Body of the motors measures about 1 . 125 inches in diameter, and 1 . 75 inches long . With 3/16 inch diameter stainless shaft, 7/8 inches long . We have obtained a supply of these very nice dual gear reduction DC motor drives, originally used in medical equipment to drive two vacuum variable capacitors . They could also be used to drive variable inductors . 
The 1/4"OD flatted shaft rotates at the approximate measured speeds below at the various voltages shown. To reverse direction of travel, simply reverse polarity. These are the same motors shown in the dual vacuum capacitor drive units that we frequently have for sale. 
We have a few of these drive mechanisms designed for a military antenna coupler, which originally drove a Je3nnings UCSXF-1200-15S vacuum capacitor. The drive assembly features adjustable limit switches, and a 26 vdc elec tr ic motor. Photos show the drives in multiple views, a close-up photo showing the output shaft and limit switches, and a photo of the drive mechanism as originally used, with capacitor and blue / green cradle mounts, front and rear. The capacitor drive shaft diameter is about .156 inches. Power is supplied to the assembly via a 9 pin "D" plug. We will be happy to supply mating power plug IF AVAILABLE, on request. We occasionally get insulated shaft adapters (not included) that fit the .156 inch diameter capacitor drive shaft, and convert to 1/4 inch diameter. If available, these insulated adapters are sold at $5 each (sold with purchase of drive assembly only).
